Excuse my language, but I can't believe I just wasted the entire day on this thing that I've been try to figure out.

I got this COBOL program that I don't know how to read, so I thought... hmmm.... there's got to be a translator of some kind out there.

So I started looking online. I found few open source software that supposedly translates COBOL to C or C++ code.

So I started installing bunch of those. To get them to build, I would need to have GCC, so I got cygwin with GCC. Then, when I build it. (This was cobol2cpp thing.) OK, things seem to be going well.

Now, I try to translate it. In the console, it says it's preprocessing line XX up until it reaches the line 400 something. The file (which is only one of five COBOL files I have on hand) has at least 2000 lines. Then the processor utilization is up to 99%, and nothing seems to be happening. Well, the proc is working at its full potential, but the console shows nothing.

After about 1 hour, I gave up.

I started working on this other thing. Open-cobol. When I tried to build it, I got error saying "libdb is required". Which apparently means Berkley DB or something. So I went out and got it. Then I built that.

Now, I go back to Open-Cobol and trying to configure it. It still fails.

Is this PATH problem???

SO I put this DB thing in the PATH. It still fails. WHAT DA....

Now, I'm left with nothing, and I just wasted my entire day on this stupid thing that I couldn't get it to work...

What a waste of day.

Now I'm even more behind than what I started out with.
